Broad reaching impact

Our digital footprint encompasses more than just social media accounts, and we need to ensure that our family can legally access all our accounts after we pass on.

Why do you need a will for your online accounts?

It helps prevent Identify Theft

  • Stranded accounts become easy targets for hackers and data thieves

It will save your family time and undue stress

  • Family members will have a complete list of your online service providers and know what your wishes were for each account

You can’t “just share the passwords”

  • Sharing passwords, in almost all cases, is a violation of privacy laws

Social media accounts have value.

  • For most, it is the sentimental value of being able to look back on photos, posts, and comments. But, in cases where account holders had “influence”, there can be actual monetary value as well.

Your Digital Footprint!

You don’t want to leave your online accounts behind.

Why can’t I use my providers Legacy Contacts?

While a good first step, the large social media companies are offering only limited ability for designations, and only for their own services. This is why we created The Social Media Will, so that all of your accounts will be covered by one document. For a more in-depth explanation, you can read this article.

Is there a legal framework that governs this will?

Yes. The Revised Uniform Fiduciary Access to Digital Assets Act (RUFADAA), was created in 2015 by the Uniform Law Commission and it has been enacted by 47 states in the USA.
RUFADAA provides a clear set of instructions about how a person’s digital assets are to be treated if a nominee seeks access.  It also clarifies a person’s right to designate nominees for their online accounts.

How does it work?

The holographic will allows you to give instructions on how you want your online accounts and digital assets to be handled after your death.
