Winter Solstice is around the corner and it is time to wear warm and wooly clothes, sit by the fireplace with a cup of your favorite drink. A cup of hot chocolate with extra marshmallows, anyone?
The first day of winter in the Northern Hemisphere is marked by the winter solstice, which occurs on Tuesday, 21st December 2021 at 10.59am EST. You might remember the winter solstice as the shortest day of the year. Yep, this is the day when night seems longer and the day shorter.
Winters do not have to be dull, dark and boring. We do understand the urge to cozy up in front of the fireplace with a warm blanket and a cup of hot cocoa, but there are things you could do to make your winters memorable.
5 fun activities to do this winter
Do you want to build a snowman?
Are you humming to the tune of “Do you want to build a snowman?” from the movie Frozen?
If you live in a place where it snows every winter, doesn’t building a snowman sound like a fun activity to do?
If snowman sounds too tedious a job, how about making snow angels? Or a snow-ball fight?
Host a snow sculpture competition
For those who think snow-ball fights or building a snowman is ‘childish’ (we think not!) – host a snow sculpture competition in your neighborhood.
You never know, there might be a Michelangelo or a Pablo Picasso in the making – living as your next door neighbor.
Shovel snow for someone in need.
Volunteer at the local soup kitchen or community pantry. If you are a pet lover, you might also want to volunteer at a local rescue center.
Indulge in some hair-raising action and adventure
Before we tell you more about this fun activity, just a clarification – the “hair raising” has everything to do with the CHILLS and nothing to do with the THRILLS.
Do you love adventure sports? Go Skiing or sledding or ice skating. If you are not of the adventurous kind, you might want to plan a hike and experience the beauty of mother nature in winter.
